Registration of Deaths
What you should know...
- Only District Registrars of Births and Deaths can register
deaths.
- There is no cost to register a death.
- No burial should occur without first registering the
death.
Registration: where, when, by whom
- Where: at the Registrar nearest to where
the person died
- When: within five (5) days of the death
- By whom: by the nearest relative, who
was present at the death
There are additional District Registrars now located at:
- Port of Spain General Hospital
- San Fernando General Hospital
- Mt. Hope Maternity Hospital
- Sangre Grande County Hospital
Documents needed to register are:
- Cause of Death Certificate (issued by Doctor in attendance
to the Deceased)
- Identification document of Deceased (ID card, Passport,
Driver's Permit)
- Personal identification of the relative doing the registration
Death Certificates
Certificates can be obtained at:
• Registration House, South Quay, POS
• 32 Pro Queen St., Arima
• Birjah Building, cor. Rushworth & Independence
Ave., San Fernando
• Jerningham St. Scarborough, Tobago
Certificates cost $25 and are issued within
five (5) working days
