Services:

Registration of Births

Process:

Provide information to the District Registrar located nearest to where child was born within three (3) months of birth of child.

Documents Required:

  1. ID of informant
  2. Letter/card from Hospital
  3. If parents are married, Marriage Certificate should be presented.

Client days: Monday - Sunday
Service hours: All reasonable hours

 

Approval for Late Registration of Birth (after three months)

Late registration refers to after three (3) months of birth but before one (1) year.

Documents Required:

  1. ID of informant
  2. Letter/card from Hospital
  3. If parents are married, Marriage Certificate should be presented.
  4. Immunization Card

Cost/Fee: $20.00 to District Registrar. $50.00 to Wardens Office
Contact the District Registrar located nearest to where child was born
Need for current Affidavits in support


Approval for Late Registration of Birth (after one year)

This service refers to registration after one (1) year of birth

Process:

Obtain information from Civil Registry, Registrar General's Department, Registration House or from District Registrar located nearest to where child was born.

Documents Required:

  1. Letter/card from hospital
  2. Immunization Card
  3. Baptismal Certificate
  4. Letter from school
  5. Any other relevant documents that provide facts on the case

Cost/Fee: $25.00 to District Registrar. $75.00 to Warden Officer


Insertion of Father's Name on Birth Certificate After Birth was Registered

Documents Required:

  1. Birth Certificates of the child
  2. Marriage certificate if the parents are married
  3. Documentary evidence of any change of name of parents
  4. ID Picture of the person making the request

Apply at Civil Registry, Registration House or Jerningham Street, Scarborough, Tobago.
Cost/Fee: $62.50 ($50.00 for the insertion and $12.50 for the certificate)
Cost includes replacement of Birth Certificate.
This service is available by appointment.


Registration of Deaths

Process

Register immediately at District Registrar located nearest to where the death occurred

Documents required:

  1. Medical cause of death. Certificate from the attending doctor
  2. ID of informant

Late Registration of Deaths

This refers to registration after one year of death.

Process:

Obtain information at Civil Registry, Registrar General's Department, Registration House or District Registrar located nearest to where death occurred

Documents Required:

  1. Medical cause of death. Certificate from the attending doctor
  2. ID of informant
  3. Other documents depending on facts of the case


Issue of Birth, Marriage, Death, Adoption and Muslim Divorce Certificates

These certificates can be ordered and obtained at the Registrar General Department at:

  1. Civil Registry, Registration House
  2. Birjah Building, San Fernando
  3. 32 Pro Queen Street, Arima
  4. Jerningham Street, Scarborough, Tobago

Documents Required:

  1. Application Form completed - obtainable at said locations
  2. Form issued by District Registrar upon registration may be required for certificates of births and/or deaths
  3. Photocopy of previous Certificate issued by Registrar General's Department. This will reduce the cost to $12.50

Time-frame for delivery:

Registration House - 5 working days
San Fernando and Arima - 10 working days
Tobago - 3 working days
Cost/Fee: $25.00


Correction of Registration Record

Supply information to the Civil Registry, Registrar General's Department, Registration House or Scarborough, Tobago

Documents Required:

  1. Documents requiring correction
  2. Other relevant documents requested by Clerk IV

Cost/Fee: $16.50 includes cost of new Certificate


Publication of Marriage Banns for the City of Port of Spain

Provide information at Registrar General's Department, Registration House or Warden's Office, Beacon Building.

Documents Required:

  1. Valid ID of parties
  2. Original Divorce absolute or Death Certificate of previous spouse and certified translation thereto, if applicable

Time-frame for delivery: 1 day
Cost/Fee: $10.00


Issue of Marriage Licence Certificates

Obtain from Marriage Clerk, Civil Registry - Registrar General's Department, Red House after banns are published

Time-frame for delivery: Seven days after publication excluding date Banns was posted.
Cost/Fee: $10.00


Renewal of Marriage Officer's Licences

This service is provided only in Port of Spain (Solicitor General’s Office)
Cost/Fee: $100.00 - Payable at the cashier, Chief State Solicitor’s Department


Issue of President's Licence

A President's License is required when one of the parties to the marriage is a foreigner and wants to marry before the eight days required for the posting of marriage banns.

An application is made at the Registrar General's Department, Registration House and at the Registrar General’s Department, Tobago.

Both parties appear before Marriage Clerk.

Documents Required:

  1. Valid ID of both parties
  2. Original Divorce absolute or Death Certificate of previous spouse and certified translation thereto, if applicable
  3. Letter explaining why such a Licence is required

Time-frame for delivery: Approximately 3 days
Cost/Fee: $100.00


Application for President's Authority

The President's Authority facilitates the posting of marriage banns by a resident/national on behalf of a foreigner who is to marry in Trinidad and Tobago.

Provide information of Registrar General's Department, Registration House and Jerningham Street, Scarborough, Tobago.

Process:

  1. Put up Marriage Notice at Warden's Office nearest to which resident party lives. - $10.00
  2. Seven days later obtain copy from Warden's Office - attend Marriage Clerk, Registrar General's Department for guidelines.
  3. Complete and sign Application Forms at Civil Registry. - $100.00
  4. Return approximately 3 days later for approved application.
  5. Take approval to Warden's Office and Marriage Licence will be issued. - $10.00

Documents Required:

  1. Valid ID of resident party
  2. Original Divorce absolute or Death Certificate of previous spouse and certified translation thereto, if applicable
  3. Copy of Marriage Notice from Warden's Office and
  4. Statutory Declaration from party residing abroad (precedent will be provided by Marriage Clerk) done by Notary Public

Issue of Special Marriage Licence (Visitors)

Documents Required:

  1. Valid ID of party (parties) preferably Passport
  2. Original Divorce absolute or Death certificate of previous spouse and certified translation thereto if applicable
  3. Proof of entry into Trinidad and Tobago

Obtain at Registration House or District Warden's Office
Cost/Fee: $300.00


Solemnisation of Marriages

Process:

Make appointment with Marriage Clerk.

Marriages performed Monday to Wednesday at 10.00 a.m.

Documents Required:

  1. Marriage Licence e.g. President's Licence, Special Licence or Registrar's Certificate
  2. ID of parties and witnesses
  3. Original Divorce absolute/Death Certificate of previous spouse and certified translation thereto, if applicable

Marriages are carried out within half an hour.
Cost/Fee: $62.50 includes $12.50 for the Marriage Certificate


Certification of District Registrar's Certificate of Registration for Birth, Death

This service is obtained from the Civil Registry, Registrar General's Department, Red House and Scarborough, Tobago.

Provide relevant Certificate to be certified

Time-frame for delivery: 1 day
Cost/Fee: $5.00


Issue of Certificate of Fact of Marriage

This service facilitates a search on the Civil, Hindu and Muslim Registers.

This service is obtainable at the Registrar General's Department, P.O.S.

Documents Required:

  1. Birth Certificate of Applicant

Time-frame for delivery: 3 months
Cost/Fee: $30.00 for each search - actual certificate $20.00


Search of Records on Births, Deaths and Marriages

Process:

Apply at Civil Registry, Registrar General's Department, Red House or Tobago

Application Form obtainable at the Registrar General's Department, Port of Spain and Tobago.

Cost/Fee: $12.50 per entry
