What can the Rent Assessment Board do for
me?
The functions of the Rent Assessment Board are to:
Hear and determine applications by Landlords
or Tenants for a review of rent in respect of
tenancies of dwelling houses
To register new Landlords and Tenants
To keep a register of Landlords and other Tenants
who are registered to the Board
The Board provides notes of evidence upon demand
with regard to its Court Matters.
Persons in Trinidad and Tobago renting properties
above $1500.00 fall outside the jurisdiction of
the Rent Assessment Board.
How much does it cost to use the Rent Assessment
Board?
Search of Registration - $1.00
Summons Dwelling & Commercial - $2.00
Land (One & Two Copies) - $5.00 per Tenant
Extra Copy - $1.00
Certificate - $5.00 Standard Plus $1.00 per
page (50 cents per side)
Does my rent have to fall below a certain
amount for me to access the services of the Rent Assessment
Board?
Yes, a maximum of $1000.00 for an unfurnished property
and a maximum of $1500.00 for a furnished property.
How does the Rent Assessment Board help
the Landlord?
The advantage of the Rent Assessment Board to the
Landlord is that he/she could apply to have his/her
rent reviewed on the grounds that the rent being charged
is too low.
Can the Rent Assessment Board tell me if
there are any complaints about a potential Landlord?
No, but under the Freedom of information Act that
information could be gathered.
