It must be noted that the average price per pound is the ‘live weight’ price, which is the price before the chicken has been plucked and gutted. It is estimated that on average, 20% of this live weight is lost in the pluck and gut process for which an additional fee is charged. Therefore, the final price to the consumer must take into account these factors.
Based on a 20% loss, an average price per lb of $6.06 and an average pluck and gut of $7.50 the following prices were arrived at:
